Crazy Rich Asians [2018]

August 27, 2018
Robinsons Galleria, Cinema 7 (Seat K25)

Cast:
Constance Wu as Rachel Chu
Henry Golding as Nick Young
Michelle Yeoh as Eleanor Sung-Young
Gemma Chan as Astrid Leong-Teo

Directed by:
Jon M. Chu

The Story
I can say that this is a typical story of an Asian mom who needs to approve the chosen soon-to-be-life-partner of their kids. Meeting the parent/s are the most dramatic scene of this type gathering.

The Actors
Hat's off for Henry Golding for this one. For being his first time acting career ever is not a bad choice. In fact, he's really a good fit. Not having a six-pack-abs is not a hindrance to be liked by lot of girls.

I don't know why but I love Gemma Chan's character as Astrid. And I'm really convinced that she's crazy rich and fashion icon.

The Best Part
Rachel's (Constance Wu) real talk with Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) while playing Mahjong.

Verdict
I love the story. So relatable. Not for being crazy rich of course, duh, but being having an Asian mom who's meeting a girl that is never enough for her son.

I was expecting that Kris Aquino's (Princess Intan) character to be relevant to the story because of the interview to the book writer Kevin Kwan once said that she's the highlight of the story. Wait, what? How come? Being a writer of an article that has been criticized be a highlight to the film? But I must admit, her entrance is kinda a highlight. Maybe, in that case, I would have to agree. You can feel that she's an important person to be in that room of rich people's gathering, the weeding. But her appearance can be easily remove if they wan't to because it will not affect the story. AT ALL!

But no matter, I still love it. It made me cry, laugh and fall in love with Singapore. The only out of the Country I've been to, so a little bit bias.

Joross Gamboa as Manok

Directed by:
Erik Matti
The Story
OMG, this is not my cup of tea. Nakz! Makagamit lang ng phrase na un. Hahaha.. Ganda kc pakinggan.

Most of the fight scenes are not convincing. So weak execution. Maybe because of the Hollywood movies or even TV Series like Quantico or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that I've watched. Still no match. What do I expect? It's a local movie. But in all fairness, this is far better from other local action movies I've seen so far, so kudos.

Bakit nawala along the way? Para ba makapaghubad? To be honest, hindi ko na nasundan paano nawala ang vest nya kc nakatakip ako ng mata tuwing may fight scenes kc ang lamya talaga.

At may close-up shot pa doon sa abandon building. Kaloka. Sana si Mara Lopez nalang ung iniwang babae. Mas magaling pang umarte.

The Actors
I must say, level up si Anne Curtis dito. Ang tatas na nyang mag-Tagalog. Walang accent. Hahaha

The Best Part
If double man un, still, convince ako sa paghampas-hampas nila sa character. clap clap ako doon. Plus, ang galing talaga ni Arjo. Tatatak talaga ung itsura nya buong film.

Verdict
Hindi ko masyadong gusto. Kung hindi siguro ako nakakapanood ng mga Hollywood movies or TV Series, maybe maganda na to. Pero kc kung sa Pilipinas lang din, wala akong mapagkumparahan dito masyado kc parang first time to na babae ang bida sa isang action film. First time nga ba? Basta to my small knowledge, first time to kya sa mga foreign actors ko lang talaga to maikukumpara.

Paul Castillo. Ang galing din kc magsalita. Deretso at convincing.

Usually ang PBA tuwing Wednesday and Friday.

Update:
Mel.

Mr. And Mrs. Cruz [2018]

June 11, 2018
via Facebook

Starring:
JC Santos as Raffy Cruz
Ryza Cenon as Gela Cruz

Directed by: Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo
The Story
This is a story of Raffy (JC Santos) and Gela (Ryza Cenon), both surname Cruz but, doesn't know each other, until they were fetched by the transport service they booked with. The setting is in Palawan for them to escape the not so great realities of their current lives and catch up on their respective me-time.

Inconsistency of Time of Event
Small details such as dates and events are quite relevant to be noticed in this story. Take for example, Gela mentioned that they were 7 year "ish" in a relationship but a year ago, they just celebrated their 3 years. Gela also mentioned that it is her first time in the place but later on, it was revealed that they have been there. Hmmmm

The Actors
They're good but I think there's something missing. I don't know. Maybe chemistry? Don't get me wrong, they look good together but maybe I'm looking something that I couldn't find in them.

The Best Part
To be honest, I never heard the Filipino version of high five that accordingly very famous (not in where I came from, Mindanao), which I liked! A lot! Sounds cool! So that means my childhood is not that cool! LOL!
"Appear, disappear, one-half, one-fourth. One-fourth, One-half, disappear, appear."

Apparently, this is similar to US Version of high five (I'm pretty sure, I've seen this version in movies/TV Series)
"Give me five, on the side, down below— You’re too slow!"

Verdict
Not that I don't like the concept of the story but maybe I got distracted already with the inconsistencies. You can't help but compare to "That Thing Called Tadhana [2014]" but far behind.
